Ask Me 3 patient education program, designed to promote communication between health care providers and patients in order to improve health outcomes. The program promotes three simple but essential questions that patients should ask their providers in every health care interaction. Information and practical strategies are available for both patients and providers to address health literacy issues.

The three questions are:

  1. What is my main problem?
  2. What do I need to do?
  3. Why is it important for me to do this?

It has also been translated into Spanish.

Choosing Wisely Australia

Choosing Wisely Australia® is helping healthcare providers and consumers start important conversations about improving the quality of healthcare by eliminating unnecessary and sometimes harmful tests, treatments, and procedures. They have developed 5 questions to ask your doctor or other health care provider to make sure you end up with the right amount of care — not too much and not too little.

The five questions are:

  1. Do I really need this test or procedure?
  2. What are the risks?
  3. Are there simpler, safer options?
  4. What happens if I don’t do anything?
  5. What are the costs?
