ACT Opportunities
CHS Occupational Violence Working Group
The CHS Occupational Violence Working Group will assist in the provision of clear direction and oversight of Occupational Violence prevention and management to all CHS staff, students, volunteers, contractors and consumers with a focus on review of occupational violence incidents and the reporting, response and review of strategies aimed to reduce this within Canberra Health Services.
This will be best suited to a consumer that has a background or significant interest in occupational safety or incident management and prevention. This committee will be focused on high level strategies to prevent occupational violence.
Meeting online monthly on the 2nd Thursday of the month, 2-3pm.

Policy Reference Group Recruitment Bulletin
The ACT Mental Health Consumer Network (MHCN) currently has opportunities for consumers to join their Policy Reference Group (PRG). These vacancies are open to any person who identifies as having lived experience of mental illness and who is a member of MHCN. If you are not yet a MHCN member, you can sign up for free here: https://actmhcn.org.au/join/
The PRG has two sub-groups: the in-person PRG and the online-only PRG. Every month, one of the two groups will meet for the purpose of reviewing policies, procedures, proposals and other matters of significance to consumers in the mental health space. The two groups alternate every month so that each sub-group of the PRG meets once every two months for a total of six meetings each across the year.

CHS Blood Management Committee
This committee provides leadership in accordance with the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards and the CHS Exceptional Care Framework 2024-2029 to deliver high quality and safe person-centered care.
The committee monitors and provides assurance that systems in place within health services organisations continue to improve the reliability, safety and quality of health care. This includes clinical variation reporting and quality and safety recommendations.
This would suit a consumer who has an understanding of the National Safety and Quality Health service standards and can provide a reliable consumer voice especially to discussions of consumer information.
Meeting bimonthly online for five meetings per year.

Allied Health Professional Lead Forum
This committee oversees the effective systems of clinical governance for the allied health professions at Canberra Health Services.
This would suit an experienced consumer representative who has an interest in allied health, an understanding of clinical governance or the willingness to learn about it and is confident to join a discussion and contribute a consumer perspective to the professional leads of these areas.

Become a peer facilitator for the “Getting Ready” project
With voluntary assisted dying coming to the ACT later this year, a group of researchers are working with ACT communities to learn more about what education we feel we need when we’re planning end-of-life choices.
These researchers would like to train and pay community representatives to become “peer facilitators” and help their community participate (through surveys and discussions) in the Getting Ready research project. Some communities need extra support to be heard. The researchers are particularly keen to partner with people who identify as a member of communities like:
- People with lived experience* of poverty or financial stress
- People without stable or appropriate housing currently/previously
- People with lived experience of the criminal legal system
- People with lived experience of mental illness
- People with a disability unrelated to a life-limiting illness
- People with lived experience of harmful use of tobacco, alcohol, or other drugs
- People who identify as LGBTQI+
- People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- People of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent
- People with veteran status
- People living in residential aged care or receiving a level 3 or 4 home care package
