HCCA views consumer consent to health care treatment as a core pillar alongside quality & safety in the operation of health services. HCCA’s feedback on the Guidelines emphasises the importance of consumer participation in decision-making processes, that consent is an ongoing and dynamic processes that can be varied at any time and the need for supported decision making for consumers. Capacity to provide consent must always be assessed in all situations.
